They say that music tells a story. They say it speaks the truth. They say it is an escape. They say that it is what feelings sound like. They say that music is life. For Jordan Ainsworth music is life. Music is the only thing she can possibly relate to. Ever since her dad died in the war, her favorite person in the entire world, her mom shut everything and everyone out. She is an only child, but being a military kid she has had to move around a lot. After being at this school for two years, she still doesn't make any friends. She refuses to let anyone else in and loose them again like she lost her father. Music is her therapy. Music is what keeps her moving despite the pain she feels inside. But what happens when one person tries to break the barrier she's been keeping. What if one person steals her heart with the simple words, "You have a beautiful voice,". Can she afford to let him in? Or will her heart be shattered again?

Seventeen-year-old Gavin Hillstone is resigned to being miserable for the rest of his life. Left alone in the world after his parents died in a fire when he was four, he was placed in foster care, which for him meant ending up in an abusive home with an alcoholic adoptive father. Gavin’s only escape is in taking and creating images. His camera is his refuge from the unending torture and isolation of daily life in his “family.” Until he learns by accident that he isn’t alone in the world after all. His father’s parents are still alive and living in Washington DC. When he takes the plunge and travels 3,000 miles to find his grandparents, he learns that they—and he—are part of something much bigger, and more dangerous, than he could ever have imagined. Something that has always put his family at risk and that will now threaten his own life, while forever changing it. He learns that he is one of the last descendants of a small group of Photo Travelers—people who can travel through time and space through images. But his initial excitement turns to fear, when he soon discovers that he and his grandparents are being pursued by the fierce remnants of a radical European Photo Traveler cult, the Peace Hunters. What Gavin has, they want! His adventure will take him to past eras, like The Great Depression and the Salem Witch Trials. Gavin will have to discover who he really is and must make choices that spell the difference between life and death for himself, for the relatives he now knows and loves, and for the girl he will come to love. For Gavin, life will never be the same.

The story of a teenager named Paul afraid to come to terms with his dreams, anxious to let himself fall in love, scared to confront his past and petrified to go back to the woods. PROLOGUE: Damp and dark outside, it was early in the evening and you could tell it was only going to grow darker as the night wore on.  Paul found himself at the edge of the clearing near the woods, the woods that he sometimes took as a shortcut back to his house from school.  The woods always made Paul uneasy, especially when it was dark out and his imagination could run wild.  The wind rustling against the leaves as they whirred through the slightly chilly air made an eerie noise that brought goose bumps to his skin and made the hair on his forearms stand on end.  Slightly clammy a bead of sweat rolled down his forehead and into his eyes.  Wiping away the thin layer of moisture, Paul looked down to notice that his hands were shaking.  Confused by his current state, Paul looked further down to found himself covered in a thin layer of dirt all over his legs.  The dirt was surprisingly dry when compared to the layer of perspiration that traveled from his head down to the small of his back.  He had no idea what had taken place earlier that night or why he now found himself standing at the edge of the woods.  His pulse was racing, a feeling of nervousness had suddenly taken over for some unknown reason.  As he explored deeper into his feelings, the realization came to mind.  It was fear that he felt, spine chilling fear, it was now pulsating through his body and he was afraid, afraid for his life!
