'Let me help you.' It's a simple request, but it still manages to leave Kaylin- a human living in the undercities below a world of towering pertheans- a little confused. After being unexpectedly sent to a deskmate school, she had been trying her hardest to keep her fear of pertheans undisclosed so as not to hurt Derrick, her new deskmate. But after finding out about this fear, he's not hurt or upset- rather, he's offering to help her overcome it. Why? Is beating this fear even possible? What's in store for Kaylin and Derrick when they begin to meet up after school with the goal of fighting this phobia? Trigger Warnings: Some mention of blood, depictions of violence, exaggerated descriptions of the protagonist's fears that may be discomforting or upsetting to some readers. Author's Note: Once the story is completed, I'm going to go through it and create at least one more draft before having it printed. So, some details may change here and there in the future, but the over all plot should stay the same and I plan on leaving the story online for all to read for free for as long as I'm able to! I also plan on creating an audiobook and having the book translated into different languages. Let me know what languages you want to see! Thank you all for your continued support as I develop this passion project, it really does mean the world to me! ❤️

Tara didn't remember much of the time before the outbreak. What others held onto in these frightful times, she tried to forget, praying it'd someday disappear, like sketches in the sand being washed away by the weightless tug of the waves. The only memory that she gave the time of day to be replayed, the one thing she kept going back to, was how quickly it happened. No one expected it, anticipated such a sudden tragedy. It was like it was creeping up on them all; it was always meant to happen, always going to, but no one could have known. Day by day it crept closer, gradually looming over them all like a storm cloud, just waiting for the moment where everything would change. She hated them. Brutes, she and a few others has taken to calling them, though they were known by many other names to whoever was left out there. Unimaginably enormous, senseless giants. They were all once people, that she knew. Not anymore. That much was clear. They chased the scent of a human like mindless dogs, satisfying their unquenchable craving for human flesh, before it arose again, and they went back to scavenging their broken world for the prey. It was bizarre how they'd once all been people. They had lives with a family, friends, likes and dislikes, interests and passions... only to be degraded to the zombie-like giants they were now. No thoughts, no emotions. No empathy. They took what they could, no matter how it might mean everything to someone else, before they came back for more. So why was this one different?
