Ricky's grandad takes a train journey to his pal Walter's funeral. Drifting off as they leave Chester station, his trip becomes a dream like autobiography of his life as they make their way to Liverpool.

Some time ago, I decided to write a novel about a hapless singer who was granted the chance wipe 10 songs from history and claim them as his own. They only downside was that he would have to face the consequences of the lyrics of the songs he chose. The idea was you could wander in anywhere and it would all come together. It didn't work. I wrote the intro and a few stand alone stories that had no way of being crowbarred into the attempted novel. One of them was 'Waterloo Sunset' this is another. Sometimes my personal favourite. A luckless singer would be actor in NYC in 1955 stumbles across the love of his life. This is their joyous life together, or is it?

Jeremy, a war orphan, has only a scant memory of his mother. Removed from London after her death, he grew up in rural Wales oblivious to the capital. All this changes when a letter arrives that details his mother's secret, her poetry. Suddenly Jeremy is possessed to read more, and determined her talent be passed on to him. When he realises his talent is lacking, he sets about the way to ensure a second volume.

This started life as a competition entry on strong women, based loosely on the life story of Irene Sandler who helped save children from the Warsaw ghetto. It just kind of ballooned from there and followed the main character, Zofia, from her idyllic infancy to the grave. S
