Twenty-four-year-old Nyasia Williams has spent her whole life balancing two different worlds. By day, she's a respected nurse working overnight shifts at one of Chicago's busiest hospitals. Smart, beautiful, and independent, Nyasia built a life for herself outside the chaos of the South Side without ever turning her back on where she came from. Because 51st will always be home.
Raised in the heart of 051 Young Money territory, Nyasia grew up surrounded by loyalty, grief, and violence. Her older brother, Yarmel "Melly" Williams, known on the streets as "The Gravedigger", is one of the most feared killers in Chicago, while her younger brother Deandre "Woo" Williams is calmer, smarter, and just as dangerous in his own way. Together, the Williams name carries respect, fear, and bloodshed attached to it.
After their cousin is murdered in the middle of a growing war between 051 and Parkway Gardens' O Block, retaliation begins brewing across the South Side.
Then everything changes.
When King Von, known throughout the city as "The Grim Reaper", is critically wounded in a shooting and placed into a medically induced coma, Nyasia is unexpectedly assigned to care for him during his recovery. To her family and the people she grew up around, Von's name is tied to years of grief and death.
But unconscious, Von isn't the monster she expected. Nyasia helps nurse him back to health while secretly battling guilt for saving a man her brothers hate. And when Von finally wakes up and realizes exactly who she is, paranoia immediately turns into hostility.
After being discharged from the hospital, Von unexpectedly reaches out. Despite warnings from her best friends Nyasia goes against her better judgement.
What starts as one late-night visit slowly turns into a dangerous connection between two people who were never supposed to care about each other, in a city where loving the enemy could cost them everything.
