When Grace left town seeking a new start after her mother’s murder, becoming a Demon Innkeeper wasn’t exactly what she had in mind.
With newspapers accusing her of killing her mother, and her PTSD too unpredictable to go out in public, Grace’s job options in the new city are limited. So when Japanese demons possessing objects around the new house come to her requesting she become their innkeeper, like her grandmother before her, she’s certain she is 1) desperate and 2) insane. But all four boys promise to protect the house—and more importantly, her and her father—from a man with a fedora looking to avenge the man she killed. The promise of safety outweighs her disbelief, and she accepts the supernatural position.
Protecting the objects that keep them alive—a chandelier, a pair of oven mitts, a Japanese instrument, and least likely of all, a ragged little wishing well—proves difficult when her own heart is still in tatters. To keep her new rag tag group of friends, and herself, alive, Grace must face the truth of what happened the night her mother was murdered. As she does, she may even find a way to repair the dilapidated oven mitts hidden in the kitchen drawers, as well as the secretive, abused demon boy attached to it.
That is, if the man with the fedora doesn’t kill her first.
