Dahulu kala, 5 klan besar ninja tinggal di Gunung Sakura. 5 klan besar tersebut terdiri dari klan Akakura, klan Sasori, klan Kuaien, klan Hayabusa, dan klan Kamiyama. Dari klan tersebut, hanya ada 3 klan yang memiliki kemampuan yang sangat hebat yaitu klan Kuaien yang memiliki jurus es, klan Akakura yang memiliki kekuatan mata yang mematikan, dan klan Kamiyama dengan kekuatan anugerah dari Dewa Gunung. 5 klan tersebut telah menjalin hubungan baik dalam ribuan abad yang lalu, hingga suatu ketika di desa klan Sasori, seorang pemimpin klan yang bernama Asashi sedang meluangkan waktunya bersama istri dan anak. Ketika mereka tengah menghabiskan waktu bersama, tiba-tiba mereka didatangi oleh seekor burung merpati yang membawa gulungan kecil. Ketika Asashi menerima gulungan itu dan membukanya, dia melihat isi gulungan tersebut berisi tentang undangan. Kemudian, Asashi segera pergi berpamitan kepada mereka berdua karena dia akan melakukan pertemuan 4 ketua klan besar di kerajaan Ninpun. Setelah dia pergi bersama beberapa anggota klannya ke kerajaan Ninpun, suatu hal buruk terjadi di desanya (Desa Ninja Sasori). Desa tersebut dihancurkan dan dibantai oleh para klan ninja Kuaien karena mereka ingin mengambil amulet Dewa Jahat. Beberapa waktu kemudian, Asashi kembali ke desanya bersama beberapa anggota klannya, namun, mereka terkejut karena desa yang merupakan tempat tinggal mereka hancur dengan dipenuhi batu es biru di sekitar. Tak lama, munculah para ninja klan Kuaien muncul dibalik bangunan dan menyerang mereka. Semua anggota klan Sasori terbunuh kecuali Asashi. Pada saat itu, Asashi hanya bertahan dari segala serangan dari klan Kuaien, hingga salah satu ninja Kuaien menunjukkan kepala istrinya Asashi. Melihat itu, Asashi sangat marah dan membunuh sebagian dari mereka dengan membabibuta hingga Asashi berhasil dibekukan dan mati di tangan siluman darah yang menggunakan perubahan wujud. Setelah terbunuh, Asashi terbangun di neraka yang panas. Akankah dia akan bangkit?
