Death and destruction are nothing short of common for Laine Fraser, and if there's one thing she knows, it's that demon hunting runs in her blood. She was raised as a Guardian and forged into the perfect weapon with a sole purpose in mind -- exterminate the creatures of the underworld. Burdened with the expectations of her family and the legacy of her ancestors, Laine became tired of the constant loss and never-ending battle against the spawn of Hell. When the opportunity to leave it all behind presented itself, she put her guns in the ground and reinvented herself as a new woman, but the past refused to release its claws from her. With a dangerous penchant for stirring up trouble and two attempts on her life under her belt, Laine finds herself thrust back into the flames with a target on her back and demons hot on her tail. They thirst for her blood and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Assisted by people from the past and few unlikely allies, Laine will once again have to fight for her life in a world she swore she had left behind.

The world as we know it ended 209 years ago. From a desert wasteland springs a single kingdom, ruled by a tyrannical King and trapped in an endless war against the shadowy desert warriors. As a desperate bid to save what remains of humanity, society has been split into two distinct classes, nicknamed the Court and the Commons. For an oppressed population on the brink of revolution, a common thief could be the last hope. Up until now, Kay has survived by her wits alone. Reckless and impulsive, wanted by the King's guard, Kay has become known as the Runner. Using the city's rooftops as her personal domain, she manages to keep one step ahead of the King with one hand buried in the purses of the courtiers. Driven by the plight of the commoners and the unjust death of her family, Kay seizes the chance to graduate from small-time thievery to full-scale rebellion. Her opportunity comes in the form of Will, a wealthy ex-soldier with a dark past. Plucked from the streets and thrown into the shimmering palace court, Kay must use her every strength to blend into a world where she doesn't belong, closer to the enemy than she ever thought she would be.

My name is Tide. I'd love to say hi and all, but if I tell you my location two very bad things could happen. First, someone who isn't really on my list of favorite people might find the information. Then, they would hunt us down and try to use our powers to take over the world and other maniacal things. Yeah, not so fun. However, I'd like it if people knew how things really happened. You may see things on the news, and they may sound bad, but trust me, this is the real story. Because I'm an Elemental. And somebody needs to set the record straight.* [Action #101] [Fantasy #2] :: cover credit goes to the lovely ATXNNA :: *heyo so this book is pretty old, some (a lot of) spelling mistakes, some (a lot of) plot holes, but if you're looking for some fast paced action and some sarcasm and some cliche romance you should honestly just go to the second book but yeah, this has got that, just with, you know, the glaring faults in the story line. Just a warning.
