"Pete, you still spend an abnormal amount of time with that human."
"Macau?"
Erika pursed her lips. She always knew when Pete was being purposefully dense.
"You know I mean his brother."
"He's..." Pete waved a hand in the air, trying to conjure the right words suited to capture Vegas's essence. Giving up, Pete simply said, "He intrigues me."
"You play a dangerous game. You're not a mortal. You are getting attached, and you know he could very well die in the next battle."
Pete knew. He did. He didn't need to be reminded.
"Don't..." he began carefully, "Don't other Guardians feel like this?"
"Like what?" Erika asked kindly, tilting her head in Pete's direction. She had always taken special interest in Pete, and he was always grateful for her advice and company. He could confide in her.
With a forceful exhale, Pete's hands flapped in front of him as he tried to explain. "Like...like I can't get away from him. Like I just want to watch him, all the time, and more than that, I want him to see me. I want him to know I'm there. I hear Kim write love songs, and sometimes, the words feel...right. Can...can Guardians fall in love?"
