Racetrack Higgins was a normal Manhattan Newsie- more or less. He was Gay, but so were all of his brothers. He was Jack's Second in Command and had a rough past. He was stubborn, has anxiety, and is a good bit chaotic. Spot Conlon was not a normal Newsie. He was the King of Brooklyn, the Borough feared by most. Except for Race. (And a few others.) Said Italian blonde boy was actually a half Brooklyn, half Manhattan Newsie, as he sold in Brooklyn. Sure, Spot scared him sometimes, but not a lot. They were very different. Spot had brown hair, Race had dirty blonde. Race had been to the Refuge, Spot hadn't. Spot had brown eyes, Race had bright blue eyes. Race was strong, but easily outnumbered, Spot was strong, but wasn't easily outnumbered. One think they both agreed was that they cared for their boys more than anything and would do anything to keep them safe. Oh, that and that the other was cute. Or hot, depending on if you were Spot or Race. ~~ Excerpt from the Story ~~ "Hey, Race." Ace starts, picking up his cards every time Race passes one to him. Race hums, passing a card to Sling, then himself, and then Ace. "Do you have a crush on Spot?" Ace asks, still staring at his cards. Sling hides his smile with his cards in front of his face, stifling a laugh. "No." Race answers, his face reddening slightly as he passes out another card to each boy. Ace looks up at him. "BS." He responds, smirking. Race scowls at him, pulling his hat off of his head and smacking Ace with it, all while his face turns bright red. Ace and Sling laugh. ~~ ~~ (I do not own Newsies.) It's been over a year since the strike has settled and the newsies haven't had any problems with Pulitzer since. But that's not to say that they didn't all have problems outside of work. Jack and Katherine were unhappy together. They didn't feel the love towards each other that they used to feel. Yet they were too scared to say something to one another. Crutchie wanted for his long-time crush to love him back, although he knew that would never happen. Still, one could dream. Davey and Les's father had been severely injured by an incident at work. He wasn't so lucky this time around and passed away due to blood loss. This drove their mother into a state of insanity, forcing Davey and Les to pack up their things and leave. They now live on the streets with their fellow newsies, struggling to support themselves just like every other newsie. Their lives were still pretty crappy and hopeless, but hey, they were still alive and that was what mattered. Then, a new kid shows up at the gates of The World and sends their lives into chaos once more.

Art by @crystalizedtwilight on instagram! - - - - - "Sounds more like a demand then anything," Muttered Race. "What was that?" Said Spot, taking a step closer to Race until they were face to face. Well, face to chin, but still. "I said," Race slightly bent his knees so that he was level with Spot, "It sounds like a demand more then anythin', and besides, then the sheepshead races might close. That isn't a win for anybody." Race stood up straight and crossed his arms. "Well den, Ise can just go sellin' with ya," Spot said, mimicking Races stance and crossing his arms. "What?" Race said, slightly shocked at what Soot had just stated. "Youse heard me, Ise can go sellin with ya then." "Alright then. I'll see you there tomorrow mornin'." "A'ight," Spot said. Both boys hadn't realized the close proximity between them, and only realized how close they had been once Race turned his back and walked away, Spot doing the same.

When everyone was born, they were given a soulmate based on personality types and such. Each person bore a bond to their soulmate through drawings. Basically, if you ever drew on your body, it would show up on your soulmate's body in the same place, identical except for the color, which would always be your eye color. Racetrack Higgins is many things: a newsie, a gambler, witty, and smart. And he also wasn't born a boy. He can count the number of people who know that fun fact on one hand. It's a struggle to live as a boy while trying to make sure no one knows where he came from. Luckily, he has Jack to help him--a guy who wasn't born a guy, just like him. And he has Spot, who he may or not have feelings for, and who may or may not have more in common with him than he thinks. But this world is dangerous for people like Race. So he just needs to stand tall, and find his place in this dangerous world. Please, no homophobia, transphobia, profanities, slurs, hate etc. I DON'T OWN ANY OF THESE CHARACTERS. THEY ALL BELONG TO DISNEY. THIS STORY ALONE IS MINE.
