In an alternate universe, Lucy and Tim are actors who have been cast opposite each other to film a movie together. To drum up buzz for the film in the hopes of making it a series, the studio asks them to fake date while the movie is filming. They agree to spend one year "dating", but it might not always feel like pretend.

Lucy had a boyfriend in high school named Carl. Lucy ended up getting pregnant when she was 16 because Carl forced her to have sex. When Lucy's parents found out they forced her to give up the baby for adoption as soon as the kid was born. Lucy ended up having a girl. she was able to name her so she gave her the ne Poppy.
