In the aftermath of the Clone Wars and the deaths of Count Dooku and the Separatist Leaders, a shutdown signal was sent to all Battle Droids units throughout the Galaxy, effectively putting an end to the Clone Wars. In addition, the Galactic Republic was reorganised into the First Galactic Empire, and Chancellor Palpatine, who is actually the Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, establishes himself as Emperor, putting an end to democracy and creating a new era of fear, corruption and tyranny that would last over a decade. Unknown to Palpatine, one large squadron of Battle Droids was able to resist the shutdown signal. In the possibility that Palpatine would betray him, Count Dooku instructed his secret apprentice, Jack Trevelyan, to oversee a contingency plan, to reconstruct the Droid Army and a secret project: Project Rebirth. Hidden in a secret facility on the remote planet, Virmire, located in the Unknown Regions. Jack had his Tactical Droid, Kraken, oversee the reproduction of the Droid Army and Project Rebirth and enters cryo-stasis to preserve his youth, reawakening once the time comes. In time, the Confederacy of Independent Systems will return to resume its original purpose: free the Galaxy from the corruption of the Republic, now the Empire.
