"We're here for you, y'know," he muttered. "I'm here for you. I always will be." The promise was far from empty, but Megumi couldn't help how terrified he was that it might be. It never would be, though - not if it was from Yuuji. "Why?" Megumi managed to ask. "Because it's you," Yuuji told him simply as if it was obvious. "Can't that be enough for me?" Even when he didn't know where to begin, Megumi learned what it meant to live again.

After the events of the reform school incident, Yuji Itadori is overjoyed to be alive and with his classmates back at Jujutsu High, the one place he truly felt he could call home. However, despite his classmates also being overjoyed to have him back, that didn't dismiss the trauma Megumi Fushiguro now had because of what happened, what he had witnessed that day.

Megumi knows that the one and only who ate a cursed body part on the spur of the moment wouldn't certainly be able to slither his way into his life. Itadori Yuuji is reckless, he thinks more with his actions than with his brain; his instincts might be good and well based, but his urges can be dangerous at best. Megumi doesn't fully understand how someone like him can hold that much power and control to sustain Sukuna, but that's one of the many things he can't comprehend from the other. Itadori is the type of person in their field of work that needs constant surveillance, someone to make sure he doesn't snap or walk directly into a trap. He believes that Itadori needs someone to be there and look out for him, making sure he doesn't die, and he will not be the sort of person to succumb to it.

"You want to ruin him," Sukuna says. Maybe Sukuna isn't wrong about that, Fushiguro thinks in a daze. Itadori's heart is too heavy and too precious. It's a burden that shouldn't be given to anyone else. Because even Itadori himself can't take care of it, can't hold onto it for the life of him because he'd rather become the vessel to the most wretched of all curses just to help two people he's only known for a few months-to help Fushiguro, who he'd only met that night. (I can keep it. Fushiguro's hands move. I can hold onto it, if you want.) Maybe Sukuna's definition of ruin wasn't all that wrong from what Fushiguro wanted after all. Maybe that did make him just as wretched. But if Itadori was still willing to stay beside him, despite knowing that- Then there was no reason for Fushiguro to let him go. Or- Some dreams start to keep Fushiguro up at night, and the cure to stopping them might be closer than he thinks.
