So this story takes place in season 1 of Dickinson, during episode 6. Emily fakes being ill, but after a midnight swim in the lake with Ben, it becomes the truth. Also instead of Emily writing to Sue, Austin does out of worry because he, like the rest of the Dickinsons, believe that Emily is on her deathbed. Before it was all an act, something within Emily's control, and now she's really sick and no one knows if she'll recovery or not. Emily has been living in Boston over the past four years finishing up college and starting her career at the Boston Globe HQ writing and editing for the paper. Sue has been in NY, but the girls have lost contact over the years and haven't spoken for quite some time. They were best friends growing up and Emily always had Sue lingering in the back of her mind. She wondered where she was... what she's been up to... how she has been. Will their paths cross again? When they do--what will happen?

This story takes place after Emily and Sue rekindle their romantic affair in 2x10. Rated M for later chapters. ........ Emily and Sue have been in love for quite some time. After Sue and Austin get married, their relationship took a halt for a long time. What happens when they can't resist temptation any longer and act on their emotions?

Emily Dickinson and Sue Gilbert grew up spending their summers together in Martha's Vineyard-a small island right off the coast of Cape Cod. Both the Dickinson's and the Gilbert's had summer cottages on the island and they had been summer neighbors since they were young. It had been a few years since Emily had spent her summer there due to college and other life happenings taking up her time previously. They hadn't really kept in touch and this would be the first summer in a while that they would both be there at the same time. As the summer goes on, there's a burning tension between the girls and both of them are feeling it.
