So you wanna talk about love? You wanna talk about heartache? Let's talk about ivy league freshmen Luke Henson and his unyielding desire to be liked, loved, remembered and prized. Then after that, let's talk about Kennedy Vo, resident alpha-girl and the star of everyone's daydream. This is about the heartache that comes with falling in love with the idea instead of the person. What it means to both admire and be admired from afar. A tale told through the eyes of both the Dreamer and the Dream. On my way to find another liquid companion, I stumble into the one person I need to get off my mind, but can't. I reach out, gripping her waist to steady her, while also keeping myself balanced in the process. "Reggie, what are you doing here? I thought you had other plans?" Olivia questions, folding her arms over her chest, making her cleavage perk up. Fuck. I'm staring. I set my empty bottle down, take her wrists and set them back by her side. "Keep those there," I slur. Her cheeks become a little more colorful as she tries not to grin, fully aware of what I'm implying. "You're hammered," she states the obvious. "You're stunning." ** Reggie and Olivia have been in each others lives for five years with one thing in common: both of them have a mother who has battled cancer. Olivia spent most of her middle-high school years helping her mother through rounds of chemo, remission, repeat. Her parents are letting her attend a university a few hours away, under the condition that she stays with Reggie. Not only to save money, but she's under the impression that they want him to keep and eye on her. However, it turns out they're intentions are the complete opposite. While Olivia's mother is in remission and getting back to her life, Reggie's mother is nearing the end and for his own personal reasons it's becoming more than he can handle. Over the years he's developed coping habits of his own and as much as Olivia tries to be there for him, he only pushes her away. He harbors a lot of feelings for Olivia and most of them confuse him. He's so back and forth with everything in his life that she's his only consistency. That is until, Olivia starts seeing another guy on campus. As Olivia needs Reggie less and less, he begins to realize how much he actually needs her. Can they work things out before he lets his addictions get the best parts of him?

"She had this thought. Not about choking hazards on children's toys or fatal car crashes, but a thought about how Skylar was not entirely a person. He was more like an ocean with violent currents; one of the seven seas with skin and bones and teeth. He was waterlogged with despair; bad weather with the premonition of a hurricane. And she thought that she finally understood why they named hurricanes after humans. But she lived in Arizona all of her life; she had never seen a hurricane, and she found that fitting because she had never seen anything like him either." He was as tragic as a hurricane. She was as volatile as a tornado. But when Skylar and Scout collided, they were bound for the sun. NOTE: Art for book cover by Budi Kwan.

"Would you like some coffee with your sugar?" "Sounds like something someone with a pH of 2 would say." "Diabetic." "Acidic base." "That'll be $3.20." *** Some people think your coffee order says a lot about you. Andie Bishop takes her coffee with three pumps of syrup, a double shot of espresso and just enough milk to not burn her tongue: sweet, but strong. Scott Tyler takes it black: no frills, no fuss. Straight-forward. A little bitter. Looking at it like that, it makes a lot of sense. But Scott could use a little more sweetness in his life, and it wouldn't hurt Andie to do things the easy way sometimes. Opposites attract alright, but sometimes the clash is too much. Can the bitter barista and the over-the-top undergrad make it work? Or are some things just... not meant to bean? Puns, coffee, puns about coffee and belligerent sexual tension - what more could you want? Caution: contents may be hot. [highest rank: #63 in humor]
