For as long as she can remember, Hayley Baker has spent every summer in Cousins Beach, where the sand is warm, the waves are endless, and the people she loves feel like home. But this summer is different. This summer, she's trying to let go of the boy she's loved her whole life-Jeremiah Fisher.
Hayley has always been the second choice, the girl on the sidelines while Jeremiah's heart has belonged to Belly Conklin. No matter how hard she tries to move on, she can't escape the ache of knowing that she will never be his first love. And with her father gone, her strained relationship with her mother, and the weight of feeling invisible, Hayley is caught between holding on and setting herself free.
But the ocean has always been her escape, the only place where she feels like she belongs. As she spends more time surfing, rediscovering herself, and meeting new people, Hayley begins to realize that maybe she doesn't need to be someone's first choice to be happy. Maybe, for once, she can choose herself.
This summer, Hayley will ride the waves of heartbreak, love, and self-discovery. Because sometimes, the hardest lesson to learn is that letting go isn't the end-it's the beginning.
