"Was it that bad?"
Manon frowned slightly. "What do you mean?"
"Whatever happened ten years ago. Was it that bad?"
The question hung in the air like fog - shapeless but heavy. Manon didn't answer right away.
After a moment, she said, "It's complicated."
"I'm sixteen. I can understand complicated things."
Manon smiled faintly, eyes still forward. "You think that now."
Yoonchae waited, silent but expectant.
She sighed, gripping the steering wheel a little tighter. "I guess I'm cornered." Manon smiled, but there was no real humor in it. "You won't let me off the hook, will you?"
Yoonchae grinned, triumphant. "Not when I've got at least an hour to wear you down."
