"Thời gian đầu tập đọc, tôi khuyên bạn tránh xa tiểu thuyết và các loại văn học, thơ. Lý do là từ ngữ quá văn hoa nên phải tra từ liên tục, dễ dẫn đến nản chí. Nên đọc non-fiction (khoa học thường thức, self-help, lịch sử, tiểu sử người nổi tiếng) vì bạn có thể dễ dàng chọn nội dung mình ưa thích (phân loại rõ ràng, cả quyển sách chỉ nói về một chuyện) và câu văn mạch lạc, từ dùng đơn giản, thường chỉ mất công tra từ khoảng mươi trang đầu, phần sau đều lặp lại cả, lúc đó đọc rất nhanh. Nhiều bạn không có thói quen đọc sách, ngay cả sách tiếng Việt. Vậy tôi khuyên những bạn này đọc báo tiếng Anh. Tin tức thời sự thì hơi chán, bạn có thể đọc các chuyên mục văn hóa, giải trí để đỡ nhàm. Các trang phổ biến nhất bao gồm CNN, BCC, New York Times."
