Davi é o irmão mais velho entre os três filhos de João e Olívia, um casal singelo e dedicado. Desde cedo, ele aprendeu que não há outro modo de viver senão através do esforço. A família vive no topo de uma colina, em uma casa construída com restos de materiais: em sua maioria partes de veículos antigos e outras estruturas que resistiram ao tempo. O trabalho no milharal cultivado por eles é intenso o ano inteiro, apesar disso, Davi se dedica a encontrar momentos de diversão, como treinar o seu cachorro e ensinar o pequeno irmão a pescar. Os enigmas do mundo antepassado atiçavam a sua imaginação com frequência, nunca ao ponto de levá-lo para longe em busca de respostas. Até que a dificuldade chegou para eles e isso teve que mudar.
