This story is told in the eyes of James "Ryan" Haywood, The Mad King, and his point of view on the story Heroes & Roses. Is Ryan really crazy? Or was his mind perfectly preserved?

Nico is a scrawny, socially-awkward sixteen-year-old boy who wishes that not fitting it at school was his only concern. To top it off, Christian Matthews, the son of the prominent businessman who Nico's father works for, comes to his family's summer house to spend three weeks with them... Now, having no friends is definitely last on Nico's list of concerns. WARNING: This is NOT a happy tale. Please proceed with caution.

Texas is now overrun, outer cities in ruin, and Austin in chaos. The Mad King now rules the state, and no one has stopped his destructive path. However, there are some who plan for the downfall of the king. The Superhero's of Texas (known as the Achievement Hunters) have stepped up and joined forces to defeat the King. X-Ray has joined their squad and may be the only one to stand a chance against the new ruler. He finds Friendship, and possibly love, in his new friends, as he begins getting closer and closer to Vav. But, will X-Ray's relationship with his new found family be his downfall?
