He loves the "Lady Elara Thorne" who is sophisticated and rich. Elara is terrified that if he ever saw the "real" her-the girl from the slums-he would be disgusted. 2. Jonah (The "Shadow" from her Past) Jonah is the boy who works in the stables at the academy. He is the only person at the school who knows Elara's real name and her secret. He has loved her since they were children playing in the dirt. * What he represents: The truth. He loves the "real" Elara, callouses and all. He is her safety net, the one who protects her when the lies become too much. * The Conflict: He hates seeing Elara flirt with Amon. He thinks she is losing herself in the lie, and he is jealous of the Prince who can give her the life he can't afford. 3. Elara (The Girl Caught in the Middle) Elara is the "fake rich girl" at the center. She has to choose: * Does she stay with Amon, risking everything to live a life of luxury built on a lie? * Does she go back to Jonah, choosing a life of honesty but remaining in the poverty she fought so hard to escape?
