Katie is just a normal girl in a normal kingdom..at least that's what she thinks. She gains the Prince Keith's interest when he goes in disguise and the pair becomes friends rather quickly. Keith thinks he can get further with Katie but a sudden princess, who he was forced to get engaged with, gets kidnapped and Katie's father and brother goes missing. Join them both in their journey to find the missing people and find each other. In Galra terms, 'mating' means marriage though the process of it is close to exactly what you would expect from the word, though it is a long process that contains several steps including leaving permanent scars on both partner's bodies to tell others that they are already taken. Once the process is completed the two partners will be each others mates, as one would expect, how is this relevant to team Voltron? Let's just say a certain red Paladin happens to be Zarkon and Haggar's grandson and he and a certain green Paladin had acted upon the mating process permanently claiming each other, however when the rest of the team finds out that one of their team members is the enemy's species, he is exiled from the team, but what happens when Pidge discovers that she is pregnant with Keith's baby? Basically the same thing, except Pidge and Keith we're in a relationship ever since they joined Voltron, and once Keith returns two years later, with Pidge 17 and Keith 19, they decide to deepen their relationship, resulting in them getting more then they expected.
