Turquoise grew up with little knowledge of the world. Only knowing no one's really safe Shayne relishes in chaos and distruction. He easily turns against the rest of the world. Neither expected their lives to change or to be stuck with someone so opposite their world view.

The fallout opened a rift in the earth through which animal-like spirits called Remnants stepped into the light. In order to survive the near-constant onslaught of human survivors' attacks, the most pure of Remnants, known as Auras, fused with human hosts and spread from human to human in the same manner as a contagious disease-through contact with bodily fluids of one of the hybrids. These hybrids became known as Afflicted, and are characterized by their immortality, the supernatural powers they possess, and the powerful spirtiual entities residing within them. Avery "Distance" Anderson stumbles across an Afflicted named Hitashi Tsubasa, who has no memory of who he is or where he came from. Through a series of escalating events, Distance is thrown into the world of Remnants, Auras and Afflicted. As Distance is drawn deeper and deeper into their world, he comes to realize that the immortal bodies and supernatural abilities he considers fascinating and amazing are more of a hex than a blessing to their owners. I didn't ask to be thrown into the plot of some fantastical story. It just kinda...happened. Well, I don't really see any way I could've possibly avoided it while living in a world where animals in human form are common and everyday sights. Not to mention that 'spirits' from some 'classified realm' are a very real issue facing the military that oppresses my faction. Hell, the worst part of it all was falling in love with one of the outlawed wolves and suddenly being surrounded by them! I guess I shouldn't have hung around with a normal ol' human until he got mixed up in the world of me and my kind. I feel pretty bad about getting him involved, but he still says that all this was gonna happen anyways whether or not he'd saved me. Maybe it was because of the mystical otaku (yeah, you heard me right) who walked in our dreams, or maybe it was because of something far more sinister returning to our world from some alternate realm. I can't say for sure, but I'm sure it has something to do with me.

100 years after a nuclear war devastated much of the southern United States, four warring divisions have arisen from the ashes. Two races to each division, and humans are only one of the eight races. Out of nowhere, creatures of all sorts begin searching for Memory. His illusion of peace is about to come to an abrupt end, and neither he nor Distance expect it.
