Enter Chace, a young man who tackled Rose to the ground, mistakingly thinking she was about to commit suicide. He's handsome, suave, and has no idea why Rose is so upset. And even though she is a complete stranger, he decides he wants to help her feel better. With four months until her vision is gone forever, Rose slowly falls in love with this happy-go-lucky young man, but never reveals her problem to him. She's scared. Will he stay with her when he finds out she's going blind? Or will he ditch her when he finds out the truth?

Death is unsociable and not liked, so he's getting an assistant, whether he wants one or not. All the traditions of passing over into the next life are turned topsy turvy as Popov is assigned to help out and tries to make passing over 'more interesting'. Olevia Planar is eighteen. Eighteen! It was her last year of eligibilty for the Hunger Games and this year of all years she gets called. She already knows the only way she's coming back to District Three is in a wooden box. So she's already given up. And it's customary to wish the tributes luck with the phrase 'May the odds be ever in your favor,' but Olevia is most certain they are not in her favor. But she strikes a deal with her fellow tribute, Phillip Dex, to at least try to look respectable for their family and their... significant others. And along the way, the two become close friends, share secrets and keep each other sane. But once in arena, will they keep this promise? And have they become too close? Now let the Seventy-first Hunger Games begin.
