Venti di guerra spirano da Sud e l'ombra che grava sul cuore di Thranduil si è fatta troppo cupa. Teme per suo figlio e per la promessa di proteggerlo che sente di non poter mantenere, non senza perdere se stesso. Nella brughiera dello Yorkshire, Hannah non vuole altro se non vivere in pace e in solitudine, con il padre, il cane Thorin e le loro pecore. Ma quando si ritrova il Re degli Elfi nel boschetto dietro casa, non solo è costretta a ospitarlo, ma il suo arrivo ha anche risvegliato un antico male che minaccia la fattoria. L'unica soluzione è far tornare Thranduil da dove è venuto. Al più presto possibile.
