Elsa, is a sixteen year old girl is part of one of the eastern clans, who had settled in the forest many years ago. All her people, and their daemons- their souls living outside their body as animals- train to fight, and train to kill. The clans are at war with one another, there is no peace, and after a terrible event, together Elsa and her daemon Pantalaimon must make a decision, and may have to fight against their own kind.
