When the divorce rate in the United States reached over 70%, resulting in broken homes, and a nation-wide increase of depression, suicides, crime rates, and high school or college dropouts, dramatic steps needed to be taken. With most romantic relationships already beginning online due to loneliness, low self-esteem and social insecurities, the government chose to take it one step further by setting up the Department of Matchmaking (DoM) and outlawing divorce. It started with only a percentage of the population. However, after a little more than a decade, it quickly became clear that though the workers at the DoM didn't always get things perfectly right, the overall happiness and stability of society increased due to their efforts. The DoM was quickly given nation-wide jurisdiction, resulting in all marriages needing to be initiated by the DoM. On November 14, 2148 Chloe Marie Elles wakes up on her 26th birthday momentarily forgetting that it isn't a day like any other. That is, until she looks at her calendar. November 14, 2148 was the day that Chloe would be introduced to workers at Heart from the Start, the local DoM office. At 26 years old, Chloe isn't sure if she's ready to begin the journey of settling down. She isn't sure if she's ready to fully share her life someone. She isn't sure if she's ready to reveal all of her insecurities, passions, fears, and secrets. But, that doesn't matter because she doesn't really have a choice and she won't get to meet her husband until she makes it to the end of the aisle and her veil is raised. *I've decided to wait on continuing to post this story. I have a general sense of where I want it to go, but I haven't planned, drafted, revised, edited, etc. Because of this, I will not continue posting until I have the entire story complete. Sorry if this bugs any of the few people that have read the two chapters I've written so far.*

When her father dies in a sudden bombing, Opal Hunt devotes herself to the task he left behind: finding the lost Library of Alexandria. Her quest takes her to the ruins in Alexandria, to the dens of pirates and spies, into the corrupt glittering streets of the Imperial City and beyond. As the journey unfolds, so do the secrets her father kept in his life: an affair with the Imperial Princess, a son exiled, and a throng of connections to an underworld with a tenuous circle of trust. This young adult novel blends dystopian fiction with ancient Roman influences in a fast-paced read that questions who should be the keepers of knowledge and asks how well we can ever know the people we love.
