Val is cursed. Or more accurately, his entire village is cursed. Maybe. That's what he's been told, anyway. But that's all just an old story. He doesn't know much about it, as he wasn't exactly born at the time of the alleged cursing. All he does know is that he's very small and very alone. Luckily, living in the walls of an apothecary shop isn't that bad, and Val enjoys his quiet life. But winter is coming, and when Val accidentally gets mixed up in a plant that Sorrel, the shop worker, takes home, he is suddenly confronted with his worst fear: coming face to face with a human.
