An alcoholic as a father, drug addicts as his mother and father and being abused by his parents is a small description of his past. Cato has the chance to bring honour to the family. Every year some peacekeepers search the District for children who possibly could be future winners but who aren't signed up for the Academy through some issues. Cato was one of the picked children.
