Morgan "Crimsoncrown" Redglorie was never meant to rule. Princess Morgan is the forgotten daughter, born after three healthy, strapping sons. Sharp-tongued, iron-willed, yet kept far from the crown, Morgan resigns herself to the loom, expecting that her life is forfeit to be married to another family. But after the mysterious deaths of her siblings and the sudden poisoning of the queen, Morgan is thrust into power as queen-regent, with enemies in every shadow and blood on every hand. To survive her court brimming with vipers, she summons the seven greatest knights in the realm. Among them is Lady Rowan Scarletsward, the idealistic tenth daughter of a noble house, a graceful tourney-knight, the never-heir-and a girl Morgan remembers only as a toddler. Now Rowan is taller, louder, hopelessly idealistic -- and assigned to guard Morgan's door. But as dead servants start appearing in the halls and suspicion creeps through the court like ivy through stone, Morgan realizes the perpetrator may be closer than anyone dares to think. A race of human beings with horrific ancestry, an Empire's conquest of a faraway island, a man's search for divinity. Here lies Gehenna, here lie the damned. ***This novel contains mentions of violence, murder, rape & suicide -- Reader Discretion Advised*** Author's Note: Growing up with shows like Supernatural and Black Butler, reading novels like Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth, and most importantly reading the Bible the full way through, I've gotten extremely fascinated by the esoteric aspects of Christian mythology and Biblical lore. This story is inspired heavily by such Christian motifs and symbolism, specifically the Nephilim and the Book of Enoch. The setting of the story, rather than being the modern world, is instead the Age of Discovery. The reason being that, this era - the early 16th century, was a tumultous period when Christianity was spread via the early colonial Empires, and much of it involved horrific tales of the Inquisition and subjugation of conquered peoples. What better a place, then, for a novel inspired by Christian mythology than such a period? ----------------------------------------------------------- Highest Tag Rankings: 1st in #thought-provoking --- November 22nd, 2022 2nd in #cosmichorror --- September 30th, 2022 3rd in #lovecraftian --- September 8th, 2022 3rd in #biblical --- January 19th, 2023
