She was the girl with the lavender hair-the one who smelled like black tea, and oranges. She was the girl with a pencil always behind one ear or twisting her hair into a knot on the back of her head- always prepared for something beautiful, or horrendous. She was the girl always held back by anxiety and fear- never able to participate. She was the girl who nobody knew- not even herself. She was the girl who didn't believe in love- "it doesn't exist," she said. "It's just a facade. Drawn on the paper of fairy tales with a charcoal pencil to mask the truth. That's all love is, a kick to the ribs when it never shows up." She was the girl with nothing- no friends, no story to tell, nothing but the pain behind her eyes and the books on her shelves. She was just a girl.
