After a terrible tragedy that Grian blames himself for, he joins the Tournament for Death's mercy in an attempt to win the prize of a loved one brought back from the dead. During the first segment of the Tournament, he teams up with another contestant, one calling himself the Wizard. They can't seem to stop running into each other, and Grian tries his best to distance himself, knowing that only one of them can win, but that's much harder than it seems.

With only three lives, there's no room for mistakes. But when the soul bond ties Grian and Scar together, survival becomes even more complicated. Scar is reckless. Grian is... well, also reckless. And their three hearts feel like they're running out far too quickly. But somewhere between all of the near-death experiences and silly banter, Grian starts to wonder-if they only have one last life, shouldn't they make it count? After all, every heart beats its last eventually.
