Young healer Hailwatcher has been thrust into being ShadowClan's sole medicine cat after the death of his mentor, and his leader's isolationism has rendered him woefully unprepared and unable to finish his training. Meanwhile, discontent brews among the senior warriors of ShadowClan, as their leader Willowstar appears to be spiraling further into madness by the moment. This disorder, along with StarClan's refusal to commune with the new 'half-breed' healer, has left ShadowClan spiritually and practically untethered, and ShadowClan dpeuty Slightclaw intends to make good on his ambition to lead the Clan, at any cost.

Now that rouges are here, claiming to be a second clan, secrets and lies that best remain hidden are uncovered. But in this time of confusion, one cat takes a risk that will change everything. But even then, troubles still find their way. In order for leadership and peace, there must be anger and war. It will be up to her to unite the cats and find her own way as well.
