Through experimental use of various literary devices, classical references, political theories, economic concepts, and diverse structures, it addresses uncomfortable emotions, world systems, existential questions, and infatuations (with people, things, and the self.) Marienne's life was completely undone when her village went up in flames. Badly burned and her eyesight lost, she awakes in a strange place, with no knowledge of how she arrived there. Her savior was the enigmatic and alluring Victor, the Lord of Azyron, who harbors a dark and terrible secret. Marienne soon finds herself in a world she never believed existed while war lurks upon the horizon. Two questions spin endlessly in her mind: will she ever truly feel safe again, and could it be within the arms of Victor himself?
