After her family is killed by the plague spreading across the globe, Y/N, a scrappy then 14 year old girl with an immunity to the virus, escapes to the Redwoods to avoid the rest of humanity as they set about destroying each other. Here she lives, ridden with survivors guilt and a cynicism towards all things human, until an unlikely meeting with a group of incredibly evolved apes leaves her in an uneasy alliance with their leader.

The thick foliage above hides us from the suns raze and consequently from their eyes, I can hear them, they're so close now, their muscular bodies forcing the trees to bend with them and they swing from the barren branches, shaking the snow that rests on them to the forest floor. My lungs burn from my exertion, begging me to stop, but I cant if I stop I'm dead. I fought too hard, too long, and lost too many to stop now. I squeezed my arms tighter around the small furred body that clings to my own, looking to me for protection, I whisper that it will be okay. I've been on my own since I was little. I lost my family to the Simion flu. I live in the red woods. I have been there for years staying away from humans and apes. Until one day I was seen by 2 young apes by a river. The one who had caught my attention had bright blue eyes. I was scared so I ran from them. Not long after I ran I had found a human male. He did not see me thank goodness. But what caught my attention was what was in his hand. He held a gun pointing it at the two apes I had seen earlier. The man was going to shoot them. But I saved them I took the bullet without a thought. I would have never thought my life would change from that action but it did
