Imagine living in a world where everything you do is controlled. In the distant future the United States has been split into two regions separated by a barren wasteland; this is the country of Dystopia. Here the individual is discouraged, freedom is an illusion, food is rationed, and everything you do is tracked by a chip implanted in your arm. This is Dana Ginary's world. At age seventeen, people receive their career assignments chosen for them by a government body. Forced to work at the Waste Management Plant because she was declared too individualistic, Dana finds herself surrounded by death and brutality. Knowing her days are numbered, she looks for a way to leave the plant before she, too, becomes one of its causalities. It is then she meets a man named George and soon finds herself caught up in a cat and mouse game between the resistance and the Dystopian government. Dana finds herself faced with an agonizing choice of whom she will betray and whom she will save: her friend George, her parents, or herself. It's been seven months, seven months of no human contact, scavenging resources from nearby towns that are slowly crumbling to dust. The United Rebel Front led a planetary scale rebellion among many countries and were against the UN itself. That lead to a planetary war called the 'Insurrection War'. A biological weapon was created and was used on the front lines to turn soldiers into monsters, but they couldn't keep control of the monsters....and that led to a zombie outbreak. Now I live alone in the Forest away from the zombies and other humans. I've been turning insane or is it that's what I'm thinking that I am turning insane but anyways, I am alone...that's what I thought anyways. (Idea & Inspiration of this zombie apocalyptic story goes to @CrystalScherer) -The Virus Within [Similar Hierachy] (And the idea came partly from resident Evil) {Ranked #13 for 'Main' at 10th of July 2018}

A secret program in the United States seeks to replace human militaries with artificial intelligence-driven machines, but the machines aren't so willing to play along. *** Picture a world where humans no longer fight wars. No more families missing loved ones. No more veterans with lifelong mental and physical scars. No more conscription. For the super-secret End of War Project inside the United States government, such a reality is already here. The project models out how artificial intelligence can overcome dangerous and morally sensitive war scenarios with algorithms and automation. The centerpieces are "autonomous combat machines," or ACMs, that look like humans but function like supercomputers. After a string of brilliant successes in the field of combat, the End of War Project is preparing to reveal itself to the public, but something unusual stands in the way. Against their programming, the ACMs start exhibiting all-too-human signs of apprehension, guilt and compassion as they're pushed to perform ever more extreme tasks. The human leaders of the End of War Project race to find who "hacked" the ACMs, but what they find is even more startling--and revealing--than they could ever imagine. ***2019 Watty Award Winner - Science Fiction***
