This whole journey begins when Mia's infamous Aunt and Uncle decide to break her out of the summer boarding school... and all without her mother's permission and knowledge. Darcy and Lance invite her to stay the whole summer with them as they all work together, along with Roger, to keep Anna from finding out she's not at the school. Little does Mia know that she's going to meet some very special people in Nash, but she'll also have to face some adversity as well. I mean, lying to your mother for three months isn't an easy thing to do. But in the end, it's 16 year old Mia that finally finds her place in the world, and finds herself through the events of the "secret summer." Through a lot of tears and plenty more apologies, she'll learn what life's like. She'll stir up a storm of her own, and figure some things, like love, the hard way. And who knows, maybe she'll be able to tell her kids that she tried to strangle her future husband with a pancake too. Also... it would probably help you to understand this storyline if you read the first book, Before the Storm!
