Shigaraki was only a pawn that was used in this game of life and death, and when All for one was no more, he was the only piece left in play that needed to be taken out. Izuku had once tried persuasion but it was painfully obvious that that option had long since passed. He could've only tired to take in Shigaraki alive, but his emotions drove him to an end that not even he wanted. But now, Shigaraki was dead and everything was gone. At least what made Japan his home was gone. It was then end and it was time for the final act, the death of the main character in Izuku's case.
