After being best friends from the time they were toddlers, dance teacher Abby Lee Miller forbids Maddie from ever seeing Chloe again. After years of not talking or seeing each other, they end up running into each other at a dance competition and trade phone numbers. Will the girls be able to rebuild their friendship or will forces out of their control keep them apart?

Mackenzie Ziegler has had her fill of being a dancer. After floundering in the shadows of her older sister Maddie, she's thrown in the towel and stopped dancing at the Abby Lee Dance Company. Not only has she given up her career, but she's hurt her family and damaged relationships with Abby who has claimed she was throwing everything away.Once she stops dancing, it triggers a domino affect, leading to some other unfortunate things. Her mom Melissa pressures her to go back and rejoin the dance company but Mackenzie feels she has better things in store for her. However, she can't help but feel guilty about the pain and grief she has caused everyone.
