The air over Agra hung heavy with the breath of a thousand fires. From the marble terraces of the fort, the city unfolded like a tapestry of red dust and sullen silence, where life had neither halted nor resumed-merely bent in waiting. The Yamuna river slithered below, indifferent as ever. There, beneath the last hush of dusk, stood the Emperor. Not yet fully Emperor in formality, but in essence, he was more than any coronation could make him.

(Might not be fully historically accurate-- also took some liberties for the CH aspect of the story... also it only covers the reign of Aurangzeb. The other Mughal Emperors reign might get their own book someday)
