After the Wattersons finally saved an alternate universe, they come home, trying to relax and enjoy themselves. But something has been off about Gumball, especially after all the fights he has been through, he feels different about himself and he cannot explain it. Gumball has been having weird dreams which are becoming nightmares, but the nightmares feel so real, that he cannot explain it. Gumball realizes soon after that he is not being appreciated in his own dimension, nobody but his family cares for him. He wonders why people are so hard on him, and why do they manipulate and use him for their own benefits. He even thinks that the reason why he has nightmares is because of the way people are treating him. His family tries to cheer him up and make him happy, including his girlfriend. This act of kindness shown to him by the people he loves makes him happy. But his happiness is cut short when a new threat appears out of nowhere, threatening not just him and his family but all of Elmore as well. Gumball and his family have to fight off this new evil from Elmore, and at the same time, fight themselves in the process, because they also have something evil in them as well.
