Riley Hopper's life wasn't exactly 'normal' to begin with. The cancer diagnosis, eventually leading to the tragic death of her little sister had torn her family apart and had left a hole in both her and her parents' hearts. He became the Chief of Police...and she became something else entirely. After a tragic incident, Riley finds herself trapped in a terrifying alternate dimension, running from monsters who are trying to kill her. After a year of enduring this hell, Riley is finally able to escape, and return to her life in Hawkins, thinking that she has escaped her landscape of nightmares forever...until a little boy by the name of Will Byers goes missing exactly one year after her escape. Despite the fact that Riley hasn't uttered a word since she returned home, she must rely on the kindness and skill of complete strangers to find Will and rescue him before he falls prey to the Monsters that haunt her mind. And in the process, Riley finds out that this alternate universe isn't the only battlefield she's going to have to face.
