"Make friends with my daughter, and I'll pay you a thousand dollars." Tara's junior year of high school is turned upside down after she collides into the life of Aurora Rosenberg, the autistic teenage heiress to Rosenberg Technologies. Mr. Rosenberg's offer feels wrong... but he says his daughter has no real friends, and Tara's family is desperate for cash. Now what? Tara needs to make this work. It doesn't matter that her best friend moved away. Or that she may lose her house. Or that her other friends no longer like her. Oh, yes: and there's a cute boy involved. And the mystery of why Aurora's dad is so desperate to buy her a friend, when Aurora is hardly a social pariah... As Tara watches pieces of her life fall apart, and new things come together, she must figure out what she values most. Notes: Rated mild PG-13. Portals, kidnappers, tribbles, raccoons, in-laws, and more pose challenges for absent-minded neurodivergent psychologist Shara and her wife, vigilant martial arts instructor Selar. The two aim to understand humans, support each other, and (hardest of all) stay safe. While these stories take place in the Star Trek universe, they are written like general sci-fi to be accessible to the average reader. Both Trek lovers and non-fans are welcome to read! (Note: This story is tagged "autism" because while Vulcans would have different conditions than humans do, Shara's condition resembles autism. The author is autistic.)

The winner becomes the next Ascendant, spending the rest of their life alone in service to the community. Winning is nearly impossible, but that doesn't mean Valerie can't do her best and make friends. Along with talented sweetheart Kiana and nonbinary challenger Blair, Valerie aims to reach the top and prove to herself that she's good enough to do something meaningful with her life. Valerie has grown up supporting her autistic brother and volunteering as much as she can with her best friend, Daniela. She's ready to have her character, skills, and dedication tested. But making a real difference is about more than being good, and it may require things she doesn't expect. Sapphic (GirlxGirl/GL), neurodiversity-affirming, and without AI. Rated PG.
