AN AMBYS 2024 FAVORITE (POETRY) These my offerings, tiny and fragile, they must take root in stubborn soil. Fertilize them. Give them shape. Twisted they may grow, but their trunks must be strong. They must reach through the night. They must be of their ground... Note: this is as much an art portfolio as it is an anthology of my poetry. Every poem is illustrated. There is a regular section, and then a second section consisting of Instagram poetry posts that effectively make a "graphic novel" second edition of the first half of the book. Some of these poems were published in a chapbook, Eleusinian Mysteries, in 1995, under the pen name Sarah Maddox. Other publications that accepted my poetry include The Mill, Isis Magazine (the literary magazine for students at the University of Oxford), Tournaments Illuminated, and the late, great Shadowdance zine. Ever wonder what occurred between the death of Myrtle and Tom discovering that she died? Well, this story is the missing piece in the story telling you what happened between Gatsby and Daisy on the drive home. This Chapter is fanmade on my own depiction on what events took place in those timelines. If you do no the book it is The Great Gatsby by Scott F. Fitzgerald.

What if Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan reconciled their relationship and came back together? What if Jay Gatsby never died? What if Daisy became a changed woman? Daisy Buchanan is a beautiful and charming woman but on the inside, she is confused, sardonic, shallow, cynical, superficial, materialistic, and foolish, and is married to a man of wealth and power named Tom Buchanan and has a 5-year-old daughter named Pamela Buchanan. She invites Nick Carraway, her second cousin, over for dinner. During the dinner party, she finds out that Tom is talking to his mistress on the phone named Myrtle and feels betrayed, sad, and heartbroken. She then takes Pamela to move in with her best friend, Jordan Baker in West Egg Town and decides to change and get therapy. A few weeks later, Daisy divorces Tom, moves on, gets a job working at the library in West Egg, goes to therapy to seek help, and is happy. She becomes a changed woman who is unapologetically herself, independent, compassionate, authentic, imperfectly perfect, accepts her flaws and imperfections, acknowledges and accepts the good, bad, and ugly things about herself, and is strong for herself and her daughter Pamela. She, Jordan, and Nick are invited to Gatsby's party. But what happens when Jay and Daisy meet face-to-face at the party? Will Daisy give Jay a second chance? Does she still love Gatsby? Find out. Warning: I do not own the characters of The Great Gatsby. This story I wrote is made up.
