Four teens. Four reasons to escape Daedalus Station--the dead end outpost of far flung empire. One derelict ship. One mistake that propels them halfway across the galaxy. Learning to work together as a crew may be the easy part because if the ship doesn’t kill them, the universe will. (Original cover art by Chris Howard, http://the0phrastus.typepad.com/) NEWS! Almost exactly one year from when I started writing DERELICT at Readercon 2012, the story has been revised and polished with wonderful feedback from my beta readers and my agent. It's going out on submission to editors and publishers beginning this coming week (mid June, 2013) and I couldn't be more thrilled! In preparation, I had to take the story down. My apologies for that, but as a consolation prize, I've updated the first three chapters to reflect the revised story and kept Chris Howard's amazing art to accompany them. Serializing the first draft of this story was a wonderful experience and I thank you, my readers, for your support and encouragement. Keep your fingers crossed for this one! And I'll keep you posted.

A secret war. An empire in crisis. One final hope for victory. Wil Sietinen is driven by duty. Second-in-line to a preeminent family dynasty, the young noble would rather design starships than plot political schemes or battle strategies. But when Wil is kidnapped by a mysterious alien enemy, he discovers that a brutal interstellar war has been covertly waging for centuries-and only his unique telekinetic powers can end the conflict. Learning that he's the genetic endgame of a generations-long plan to win the war, Wil grapples with his daunting responsibility to become a leader with the skills needed for a decisive military victory. But when he realizes that the enemy isn't who he's been led to believe, Wil faces an impossible moral dilemma as the fate of two civilizations hangs in the balance. Caught between ruthless adversaries and unsure who to trust, can Wil build the right alliances to secure his galactic empire's future? This timeless space opera epic with adventure, telekinetic abilities, coming-of-age, romance, and intrigue will appeal to fans of Star Wars, Anne McCaffrey, Frank Herbert's Dune, and the Lensman series by E.E. - “Stargate meets Lord of the Rings!” A century ago a beneficent alien race, the Alfar, uplifted mankind to the stars and unwittingly seeded their doom. Humanity had just begun to ply the dark interstellar seas and were wholly unprepared for the malevolent forces they would awaken. When Haldor Olsen unearths an ancient alien technology, the Hrymar slavers learn about mankind, a lucrative new source of slaves—the basis of their interstellar economy. The slavers obliterate mankind’s first extra-solar colony, enslaving or killing all 10,000 colonists—including Haldor’s wife and son. Haldor seems to be the only one taking this new threat seriously.  With a small but well trained crew, he travels hundreds of light-years in a frantic race around the Galaxy to save mankind from total enslavement. In the process, he’s forced to make a deal with the devil to ward off the coming tide of destruction. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Tribes of Yggdrasil series begins just over a century in our future, but it’s a time you might not recognize. A century has been shaped by contact with mankind’s mythological past and the intervention of ancient alien races. It’s a time where starships ply the stars, where Alfar build great living-cities on their planets, and where the Dvergar dominate the local stellar-economy. It’s a time where mankind meets a great evil, the Hrymar, a twisted offshoot of the elves, and it’s a time where the old Viking Gods walk among the stars. * Check out the entire book at http://hughblong.com/starwolves/ * Subscribe to my BLOG and never miss a thing! http://tinyurl.com/o9jbkyz
