Seventeen-year-old Apollo Reyes-Perez is struggling to understand two things: his identity and his best friend's suicide. But when Amory Hartmann, the new boy in town, catches his attention, he discovers that the answers to those questions may be more complicated than he had anticipated. ...... After the passing of his best friend, Apollo is left in an unfamiliar world, or perhaps one he never understood. Swimming, friends, and family. That was Apollo's universe. Until one day it wasn't. His friends expect too much, his parents don't talk enough, and swimming feels wrong. It only took one day for his life to change. Isn't the world supposed to stop when the person closest to you is gone? That's what he believed. But when the realities of growing up as a Mexican-American teenager hurdle towards him, he must accept the simple fact that life goes on. This becomes abundantly clear when Amory Hartmann enters his life, forcing Apollo to face the parts of himself he intended to keep hidden. Pieces of himself he's been too afraid to share with a boy. Will Apollo learn to leave the past behind him and move towards the future, or will his demons keep dragging him back to the darkest point of his life? "You good, babe? You kinda seem a bit off today." "How so?" I asked, even though I knew the answer to that question. Damien answered, "Well you haven't been talking much, even when we were driving from the school and to your house, you've avoided eye contact with me, and you seem a bit nervous around me. I know you've been a bit sick last week, but I can't help but feel as if you're hiding something from me." I stared outside of my window as I sighed, "You're right, but I don't know how you'll react. I myself don't know how to react. I haven't told anyone." "About...?" Damien asked as he parked the car in front of a liquor store. I sighed, "Can we talk about this later?" Damien sighed before nodding and getting out the car. He then went into the liquor store and, after about ten minutes, came back with two bags with two bottles in each. He placed the bags in the trunk before getting in the driver's seat and staring at me. "What?" I asked shyly. "Are you pregnant?" Damien asked with a straight face while staring me into my eyes. I blushed, "What? Why would you think-" "Are you pregnant, City?" he asked again, and I looked away. *This story contains mature themes and contents. Read at your own risk*

He's popular. I have one friend. He's outgoing. I'm quiet. He has a girlfriend. I'm alone. I'm shy and he's purely arrogant. But they say like forces repel and opposites attract. And we're complete opposites. ════════ "Hello, my name is Juliette Hunter and I think you're an asshole" I said to him, turning my body away so I could, once again, try and grab the book I so desperately needed. "Your turn" I added, after a moment of silence, realising that he was too stunned to speak. His recovery was lightning fast however, as he replied with "Hi Juliette, my name is Levi Knight" He paused, allowing his eyes to roam my body, slowly taking me in from head to toe. I looked him in the eyes, defiant in not allowing him to get to me, as my cheeks began to burn. "And I think you could qualify as one of the most beautiful girls I have ever laid eyes on" he continued smoothly. I couldn't think of a smart remark in response to what he had said so I mumbled a "fuck off" before returning to the bookshelf, I was sure my face turned crimson. "Just out of curiosity," Levi continued, now leaning against the bookshelf. I wasn't going to warn him about the fact that it was slowly tipping over. "You're single right?" I wasn't going to tell him that his assumption offended me either. Instead I replied with "Just out of curiosity" I said in a mocking tone "You're single now too, aren't you?" "You're a feisty one, aren't you?" "You're not gonna leave me alone, are you?" I muttered, attempting once more, to grab the book I so badly needed for English. "You're really hot, you know?" "You're really annoying, you know?"
