*PREVIEW(CH. 26)* Saturday 2/28
"I'm not having this talk with y'all of all people."
"Henry pushed the wrong things instead of getting back up on your ass, I see."
Santiago remarked.
"I've had four, and if this fifth one gives me another daughter, I'll find a sixth. That's what a real man does-he builds. Not pine after a woman when it doesn't work."
He cocked his head like he was trying to study me.
"Hell, all that time, and not one of those girls you've had did it for you? Or are you just not man enough to keep one?"
"Man?!"
My voice rose.
"Santiago, you continue to not know shit about me! All I am is a man."
He pointed a lazy finger at me.
"I know you're still playing around with an exotic redhead who treats you like a dog. Woof-woof, or she hasn't taught you how that command yet?"
He didn't even look up from the steak he was cutting as he went on.
"My men told me she left you last night, Elijah. Don't worry-I made sure she won't be coming back after that."
"STOP TALKING ABOUT THAT DAMN WOMAN!"
I slammed my fist onto the table before pointing my steak knife at his throat.
Across the room, the crew went silent, staring at us. Every eye in the house was on us. Santiago's face broke into a slow, terrifyingly satisfied smile.
He reached across the table, knocking the knife aside to tug on my goatee.
"Eso es. Now I can see a Reyes in you instead of that damn father."
He squinted at the hair on my chin, his grin widening.
"Though you might wanna shave this shit off before the first round. It's starting to turn a little ginger, isn't it? And I'm assuming it's not from the sun."
Rodrigo and Julian let out a bark of laughter.
"Keep your damn hands off me,"
I hissed, swatting his hand away.
"Fine, you want a show? I'll ride. I'll ride every damn beast you put in front of me."
"Yeah,"
Santiago murmured, his hazel eyes locking onto mine.
"I knew you wouldn't fail me again. I'm proud of you, Elijah. You're finally listening to reason."
