With few friends and no dragon of her own, Zephyr spends much of her time stuck on the ground thinking about the grandiose bedtime tales of the Night Rider-a mysterious vigilante and dragon rider dressed in scaled, ink-black armor who had rode upon the mighty Night Fury, fighting for the freedom of dragon kind against the cruelty of the Dragon Hunters-that her mother had told her as a child. Zephyr spends her days wishing she could be more like her hero and less like a freakish nobody. But, that could never happen, and the young Haddock was certain of it. Until all that changed after an encounter with a strange dragon deep within the forests of Berk, forcing her mother to reveal a mountainous secret of her late father.
