Despite being 10y old when travelling the world in Pokémon-anime-canon, I have decided that did not happen in this universe. With other words, the Pokémon-anime characters (Ash, Gary, etc.) are inexperienced trainers starting their Pokémon journey at ANHS. That's to keep things balanced.
