When Sapphire enters Hitherto Café she encounters her first love-the boy who left her life in ruins when he fled town after high-school without so much as a word goodbye. One glance of Keith's haunted blue eyes tells her he's finally ready to talk. As for her? She no longer cares enough to listen. At least that's what she tells herself. Besides, Sapphire has enough on her plate. Her best friend Diana is barely holding up, desperate, Sapphire pushes her issues with Keith aside and teams up with Diana's potential interest, Matt. Together, she and Matt struggle to keep Diana from slipping into depression. When Sapphire blows off steam by kissing another guy during a random house party, Keith falls apart.
