Ian Smith had been Grace's best friend for as long as she could remember. From the days they spent climbing trees, to late-night walks through their small town, to endless talks about their dreams and what their futures could hold, they were inseparable. Ian was the kind of guy everyone loved-athletic, charismatic, always at the center of attention. Grace was quieter, more introspective, often lost in the world of her art. But with Ian, she never felt like she had to pretend. He was her safe space.
But that was before everything changed.
At 19, Ian's rap career exploded. His voice, once just a secret shared between him and Grace in their old backyard, was now heard by thousands. His fan base grew rapidly, and with it came the pressure of a tour, interviews, and the constant pull of fame. Grace couldn't help but feel the distance forming, slowly at first, then all at once. He left for his first tour, leaving behind a message she'd never be able to shake: "This is my dream, but I'll be back. I promise."
Months passed. He came home for a short break between tours, but Grace barely recognized him anymore. He was a different person-more guarded, distant, consumed by the weight of his success. The awkwardness between them grew unbearable. They were friends, but nothing more, or at least, that's what they told themselves. Every time they were near each other, the words they longed to say hung heavy in the air, but neither of them could risk ruining what they already had.
"I love you, Grace," he says, finally, the words so raw they feel like a confession. "I always have."
And with that, the walls between them finally crumble. But the question remains-
Can they find a way back to each other, or is the distance between their dreams, their lives, too wide to bridge? The love they've always shared is undeniable, but so is the fear of what happens if they let it all slip away.
